BorgPerception AB holds both Trademark and Copyright for the different Borg scales.
What is commonly referred to as the Modified Borg Dyspnea Scale is in fact an unauthorised and partly incorrect alteration of Gunnar Borg’s original scale. Unfortunately, the ATS made a mistake and published the wrong version of the scale, which has led to this incorrect version becoming widely disseminated. They later issued an apology and published an erratum (both are attached). It is acceptable to use either the version recommended in 2016 — which incorporates research underlying the Borg centiMax Scale® — or the traditional Borg CR Scale, which is the one that should have been included in the ATS recommendations from 2002. Please also compare Table 2 of the 2002 ATS with Table 2 in Borg (1982) and you can see the problems mentioned in the attached document ”Modified Borg Dyspnea Scale”.
Se below sample copies of the current Borg CR Scale® and the 2016 version. In Borg & Kaijser (2006) you also find the current version of the Borg CR Scale® (CR10) as well as the Borg centiMax scale®. If compare these with the original version from 1982 you can see that these are mainly more finely graded.
